Tulliano street and the quarter of Ponte - Arpino (Italy)

By leaving Municipio Square, by travelling along Liceo Street and turning to the left, we can lead into Tulliano Street, the principal arterial road of the historic centre. On the left there is the Municipal Palace and the memorial to the fallen realised by Domenico Mastroianni. Along the way, several historic palaces can be admired, such as the Quadrini-Borromeo’s Palace, the Sangermanos’ Palace and the Merolle Felluca Palace, which hosts the public library and the museum of the Liuteria. Tulliano Street ends with the Door of the Ponte, a Mediaeval remake of the ancient front door located in the south part of the city.
On the left of the door, there can be viewed an aedicule with a fresco illustrating St Cristofaro and a fortified tower, which was part of the defensive city walls. The quarter takes the name of Ponte from an ancient Romanesque bridge, that today is no longer present, situated on the Rio Vetus steam, popularly called “Rivieto”. Just after the door on the left we can admire another page of the rock book and then, further ahead, an enormous staircase that leads to the church of St Antonio of Padova. In Vittorio Colonna street, on the left there is a magnificent building that dates back to the end of 1800 which, a while ago, was the headquarters of the Sangermano’s wooden mill, whereas today it is the hotel of the Knight of Arpino.
