Pio spaccamela street and the quarter of Colle - Arpino (Italy)

On the left of Boncompagni Palace there is the church of the Saints Charles and Philip and its staircase became famous thanks to the inema Splendor filmed in 1988 by the director Ettore Scala, which tarred actors like Massimo Troisi and Marcello Mastroianni. On the left of the church, we can enter Spaccamela Street to arrive at the Quarter of Colle. Along this street we can admire various buildings historically interesting, as Ruggeri Palace (street number 29), Cardarelli Palace (street number 49), the church of the Virgin of Pity that dates back to the Sixteenth century and the one of St Girolamo that dates back to the first half of the Seventeenth century.
At the end of Spaccamela Street we can enter the very heart of the Quarter of Colle, and just on the right we can see an ancient public wash house, whereas on the left there is the Fountain of Capo di Bove, extracted from the boundary wall of the cloistered convent in which the Benedictine monk of St Andrea lived. Further ahead we can find St Andrea Square, where the entrance of the convent is located. On this entrance, there is a marvellous fresco illustrating St Benedetto while he is praying. In St Andrea Square there is the homonymous church characterised by its enormous staircase. On the left we can find Civitavecchia Street, which connects the quarter to the Acropolis, during the path, on the left, the church of St Girolamo can be admired. From St Andrea Square, through Saturn Street, we can find the Door of Saturn, characterised by double arches, a Mediaeval feature. Outside the door, there is one of the pages of the Stone Book.
